Hommey

Head of People and Culture

Posted 28/05/2026
Closes 11/06/2026

East Melbourne, 3002, Melbourne, Victoria

Full time

Not specified

You are not stepping into a function. You are building one.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will own the full people agenda across four areas: culture and belief, leadership capability, talent and growth, and people operations. The brief is clear. Managers who lead with confidence and rarely need to escalate. A team that knows what great looks like and has a real path to get there. People systems that scale as the business does. And a culture where the way we treat people is inseparable from how we perform.

You will be working to the PeopleEconomics framework – if that language already sounds like how you think, you’re in the right place.

Key Responsibilities

  • Building and owning the end-to-end people function, transitioning from external HR support to a fully in-house model
  • Developing a manager-first capability model so leaders handle performance, feedback, and growth without defaulting to People and Culture
  • Leading all recruitment for HQ and retail leadership roles, including pipeline planning for AU expansion and the US market build
  • Embedding culture, values, and engagement measurement practices that are visible, honest, and acted on
  • Establishing people operations infrastructure: contracts, HRIS, compliance, and AU and US employment practice
  • Building a core metrics framework covering engagement, retention, hiring velocity, and capability progress
  • Acting as a genuine strategic partner to the CEO, not just a function head
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You have spent your career in People and Culture roles where you’ve had to figure things out, not inherit them. Greenfield environments don’t intimidate you – they energise you. You build structure and culture where little has existed before, and you do it in a way that people feel rather than just see.

You are the right fit if you have
  • Senior People and Culture generalist or leadership experience in a high-growth consumer, retail or lifestyle environment
  • A manager-first philosophy and a track record of building leadership capability, not substituting for it
  • Experience running end-to-end recruitment and workforce planning in a scaling business
  • The commercial groundedness to connect every people decision to a business outcome
  • Retail experience across multi-site or multi-market environments
  • And the things that are non-negotiable: you lead limbic-first. You influence without authority. You build trust fast and embed values through how you show up – not through policy.
WHY JOIN HOMMEY?
  • At Hommey, we’re building more than a home and lifestyle brand — we’re creating a movement defined by comfort, quality, and personalisation
  • We believe in what we do. Be part of an ambitious start-up team disrupting the homewares market
  • A flexible work culture is at the heart of what we do. We believe in flexibility and surrounding ourselves with passionate individuals who value creativity and teamwork
  • We offer Comfort Days: these are five days in addition to A/L accruals.
  • We love our community and are customer-centric. We want to create products that make a difference in the lives of our customers
ABOUT US

Born in 2021 with a simple cushion and a big dream, Hommey is revolutionising the homeware industry. We believe creating an aspirational, top-quality brand does not have to break the bank – and we are proving it. Our mission is to help people craft a home that truly reflects who they are, without compromise.

Hommey is one of Australia’s fastest-growing retail businesses, deeply rooted in a purpose to bring inspiration to homes around the world. Underpinning the success is a high-quality, people-first culture that moves fast and holds itself to a high standard, but what’s been missing is someone to represent, support and guide people through development, change and growth.

WHAT YOU NEED

To be considered for this role, please briefly address the following in your cover letter:

  • What best describes your right to work in Australia?
  • What’s your expected annual base salary?
  • What is your notice period?
  • Do you have at least five or more years of senior People and Culture generalist or leadership experience?
  • Have you previously built or significantly rebuilt a People and Culture function in a growth environment?
