The Role

The HCV Programs Lead provides strategic and operational leadership across NUAA’s hepatitis C and broader blood-borne virus (BBV) harm reduction portfolio.

The role oversees a range of statewide programs, including hepatitis C testing and linkage-to-care initiatives, the Peer Distribution Program, and outreach and community engagement activities.

Working closely with Local Health Districts, peer workers, community stakeholders and partner organisations, you will help shape the future of harm reduction and BBV prevention in NSW through strong program leadership, workforce development, partnership building and sector engagement.

This is a senior leadership role suited to someone who can balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational leadership in a dynamic and community-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee NUAA’s HCV and BBV harm reduction programs across NSW
  • Ensure high-quality, peer-led service delivery aligned with NSW Health agreements and NUAA’s strategic priorities
  • Lead program planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement activities
  • Line-manage Outreach and Peer Distribution staff, supporting supervision, wellbeing and professional development
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with Local Health Districts, community organisations, research bodies and government stakeholders
  • Contribute to sector advocacy, research collaborations and policy consultations
  • Support the development of funding proposals, business cases and new harm reduction initiatives
  • Manage program budgets and delegated expenditure responsibilities
  • Maintain compliance with relevant legislation, contractual obligations, accreditation requirements and NUAA policies
  • Promote trauma-informed, culturally safe and inclusive practice across all areas of service delivery

About You

You are a collaborative, values-driven and experienced leader with a strong understanding of harm reduction and peer-based practice.

You are confident leading teams, building partnerships and managing complex programs, while remaining grounded in community engagement and practical service delivery.

Essential selection criteria for this role are:

  • Lived or living experience of drug use, with strong understanding of hepatitis C, blood-borne virus health issues, stigma and harm reduction practice
  • Minimum five years’ experience in harm reduction, community health or public health services, including demonstrated program and people management experience
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor staff, including peer workers, in a respectful, trauma-informed and culturally safe way
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and translate strategic priorities into operational outcomes
  • Experience building and maintaining partnerships across community, health and government sectors
  • Sound financial management skills, including budget development, monitoring and contract compliance
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, funding proposals and stakeholder engagement
  • Knowledge of relevant legislative frameworks including the WHS Act, Privacy Act and Public Health Act

Desirable:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in health, community services, public health or management
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and/or multicultural communities
  • Knowledge of NSW hepatitis C treatment pathways and NSW Health BBV and STI policy frameworks
