METL is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual for the position of GTO Officer.

METL is Australia's only dedicated maritime Group Training Organisation (GTO). METL is one of the nation's largest employer of trainee seafarers and operates as a registered not-for-profit organisation with a core focus on leveraging VET programs to meet workforce demand for the betterment of the maritime industry.

As a GTO Officer, you will be an integral part of our small management team based in Sydney - reporting directly to the CEO. 

The core workload of this position will be management, lodgement, and overseeing processing of the required traineeship paperwork for METL's trainee cohort. Secondary functions will be operational and logistical support provided to the METL team in the management of trainee movements and pastoral care.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Managing end-to-end traineeship administration, including preparation, lodgement and tracking of all traineeship contracts and associated paperwork with relevant state and federal bodies.

  • Maintaining accurate trainee records and databases to ensure compliance with regulatory, funding and audit requirements.

  • Acting as a primary point of contact for traineeship-related queries from trainees, host employers, RTOs and government agencies.

  • Working with the METL Operations Coordinator for onboarding, induction, and completion documentation of trainees.

  • Supporting the planning of trainee rosters, and associated logistics of trainee movements

  • Providing administrative support to the CEO and broader METL team, including report preparation, data collation and general office tasks.

  • Contributing to continuous improvement of GTO processes, systems and documentation to enhance efficiency and trainee outcomes.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Broad Understanding of the Australian VET Sector and Maritime Industry: Possess comprehensive knowledge of the vocational education and training landscape in Australia, particularly in relation to traineeships and apprenticeships.

  • Interfacing with Industry Bodies, Training Providers, Employers, and Regulators: Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with various stakeholders, representing METL's interests effectively.

  • Negotiation and Presentation Capabilities: Some experience in presenting information to diverse audiences.

  • Personnel Management: Some experience in managing personnel, fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment.

  • Employment and Training Strategies: Ability to research, develop, design, and implement integrated employment and training programs that align with METL's objectives.

  • Training & Assessment (TAE)/general VET sector training

  • HR/People Management

  • Project Management 

  • Business Management

The position may require occasional interstate travel.

Flexible working arrangements are negotiable, however the position is not fully remote.
