Food Relief Charity - Evening Shift Lead
Job Type: Permanent Part Time – (15 hours/week)
Hours: 6:00pm-9:00pm, 5 days per week Monday - Friday

The Outpost Inc. is a food relief charity dedicated to serving the Geelong community – delivering more than just a meal to those who are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity.
We are seeking an organised, people oriented, hospitality and community minded person to oversee the nightly operations of The Outpost. The Outpost is a 35-year-old charity embarking on a journey of transformation and organisational uplift to meet growing demand.
As the Evening Shift Supervisor, you will play a central and pivotal role in ensuring the smooth running of each nightly shift. Guiding volunteers on best practice food service, liaising with guests facing disadvantage, rotating stock and arranging weekly menus. This is a hands-on role that offers meaning and purpose to traditional hospitality roles in the social services sector or visa versa.
Outpost operating hours:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 10:30 AM - 1:30 PM
Monday to Sunday (Nights): 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer supervision
Guide 120+ volunteers to serve café style meals to people in need, working in conjunction with the Executive Board and Engagement & Operations Lead
Assist volunteers with opening, set up, feedback, and service as required
Embed training and best practice standards into operations
Facilitate corporate and guest volunteer opportunities
Conduct interviews with prospective volunteers, oversee onboarding and induction, and ensure all volunteers are equipped to contribute effectively to the organisation's mission
Identify volunteer absenteeism, provide support and follow up with volunteers
Address emergency shift requirements as they arise
Communicate consistently and effectively with the Engagement & Operations Lead and the Executive Board
Guest support and escalation
Get to know guests – the people we serve – acting as a central point of support
Offer referrals or materials as needed to support people sleeping rough and in need including clothing, bedding, hygiene supplies and more
Act as a consistent supervisor for behavioural escalations as required (full training provided)
Cooking / stock rotation and menu creation
Lead the menu and recipe planning for volunteers to execute based on stock availability
Rotate stock deliveries in accordance with food safety standards
Provision of surplus stock direct to guests in need via the guest pantry
Maintain exceptional food safety standards at all times
Collect, document and store food or material aid donations onsite as delivered
Strategic initiatives implementation
Implement strategic initiatives of The Outpost with the support of the Engagement and Operations Lead and the Board including Restaurant Takeover
Work closely with the Board and Engagement and Operations Lead to develop and implement strategic initiatives aimed at expanding the reach and impact of The Outpost
Duties as Directed by the Executive Board:
Collaborate with the Executive Board to implement strategic initiatives, fulfill administrative tasks, and address any operational challenges as they arise.
Key Selection Criteria:

Essential;
Strong organisational, volunteer leadership and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to coordinate logistics and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
Passion for serving the community and addressing food insecurity
Ability to work independently (amongst an army of passionate volunteers)
Respect for people and ability to build rapport and de-escalate where required
Non-judgmental, empathetic, and open disposition with genuine respect for people from all walks of life, and a desire to serve the community
Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
The incumbent must hold or be willing to obtain and maintain a valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) and Food Safety Certification
Desirable
Previous experiencing leading teams
Experience in hospitality management, food service, and/or food preparation
Experience in community services or lived experience of food insecurity or homelessness
Familiarity with food safety requirements
