About the Role
Community Services and Development
The role of the Disability Support Officer will be to provide hands on care and perform management functions for the provision of disability and aged care supports.
The Disability Services Officer will work in a range of service units which provide education and community access to people with intellectual, physical, social and emotional disabilities.
Jabez Disability Care is registered with the NDIS, providing a wide range of Direct Support Services in the community. We support people of all ages and abilities. We also provide aged care services through registered aged care providers. Our team comes from a multidisciplinary background, and together have an in-depth knowledge of the community sector in the ACT.

About the role
- The role is broad base involving administration, staff supervision, client management and support provision tasks
- Work with participants to maximise their self-esteem and independence.
- Form genuine and trusting relationships with participants and families.
- Work with a hands-on proactive approach using initiative and creativity to engage with participants.
- Assist with scheduling, management and other administrative tasks
- Work with client induction, care plan development and staff recruitment
The role will also include the following disability support tasks when needed, such as:
- accompanying aged and disabled persons during daily activities
- assisting clients with their mobility
- preparing food for clients
- arranging social activities
- performing housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming and cleaning
- assisting in personal hygiene and dressing
- providing companionship, friendship and emotional support
- may do shopping and run errands
Experience and Qualifications (Essential)
- Experience with scheduling, client induction processes, care plan development, NDIS compliance requirements, staff recruitment and human resource management tasks.
- Capacity to establish rapport and build supportive relationships with people living with a disability, their families and external service providers based on mutual trust and respect.
- Proven ability to use person-centred and strength-based approaches.
- Thorough understanding and appreciation of personal and professional boundaries, privacy, and confidentiality
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills
- Demonstrated computer and database skills that will ensure consistent, quality documentation and reporting.
- Proactive and hands-on approach, including the ability to work under limited supervision.
- Minimum Cert III in disability care, aged care or a related field
- Experience and/or training in small business management.
Desirable
- Cert IV in either disability or mental health qualification, or working towards one
- Management related qualification
- Experience, knowledge and skills working with people living with a disability
- Ability to work outside normal business hours
Essential Operational Requirements
- Working with Vulnerable People Registration/ NDIS Worker screening check
- First Aid Certificate
- Current driver’s license and comprehensively insured vehicle
- Working rights in Australia
- Ability to work 40 hours minimum per week including weekends
