About the Role
We're seeking an experienced Welder to join our production team in St Marys. The successful candidate will support fabricating and maintaining metal structures and machinery integral to rubber/plastic production, maintaining high-quality workmanship in a heavy engineering context.

Task & responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to determine dimensions, joint types, and welding requirements in line with project specifications.
- Clean and prepare metal surfaces by removing rust, scale, and contaminants; set up welding machinery such as MIG, TIG, arc, and plasma cutters according to material requirements.
- Perform welding on a variety of materials including mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminium in flat, vertical, and overhead positions using MIG (bare/flux), TIG, and FCAW techniques.
- Fit and assemble metal components or repair units as required; carry out grinding, gouging, drilling, bevelling, and cutting tasks to meet fabrication standards.
- Inspect finished welds for bead width, penetration, and defects to ensure they meet tolerance and quality requirements; complete non-conformance reports and make necessary adjustments.
- Maintain and monitor welding tools and equipment, identify operational faults, and carry out routine servicing to ensure continued reliability.
- Adhere to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), maintaining a clean and organized workspace, and following NEPEAN’s safety procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with engineers, machine operators, and other team members to ensure efficient project delivery and communicate any issues proactively.
- Record and maintain accurate documentation of welding activities, materials used, fabrication timelines, and quality outcomes for tracking and compliance purposes.
Qualification & experience
Skills & Experience Required
- Trade qualification, i.e., Diploma or above in relevant field
- More than 3 years of welding experience in a manufacturing, mining, or heavy-industry setting
- Proficiency in MIG, TIG, GMAW and arc welding methods
- Deep understanding of welding codes, AS/NZS standards, and safety/quality control practices
- Skilled in reading and interpreting technical drawings and fabrication documentation
- Meticulous attention to detail, with strong problem-solving aptitude
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a technical team environment
