Technical Manager

We’re looking for someone who gets the detail right—someone with a technical brain, a practical streak, and the confidence to lead a lab and technical team that sits at the heart of a civil construction business.

At Roadways, the Technical Manager role isn’t about sitting in an office reading standards. It’s about engaging with products, people, and performance. You’ll be working across asphalt, spray sealing, road treatments, and barrier systems—but you don’t need to be an asphalt purist to step in. We’re open to people from across construction, materials, civil infrastructure, or technical quality leadership roles. If you’ve worked with road or pavement materials, construction chemicals, engineered products or other compliance-heavy sectors, your experience is welcome here.

You’ll lead our lab team, oversee testing and compliance, and work closely with our operations staff and industry partners to develop better, more sustainable products. There's a strong focus on innovation—whether it’s using recycled materials, reducing environmental impact, or getting ahead of changing specifications. The role reports to the COO and works closely with senior leaders across surfacing, plants, line marking, and civil services.

This role suits someone who enjoys being the go-to technical expert, can interpret complex specifications and industry standards, and knows how to keep a team engaged and a lab compliant. A background with NATA, VicRoads, or other regulatory bodies helps, but just as important is your ability to apply your technical skills in a commercial environment where quality, safety and client confidence are non-negotiable.

You’ll be based in Glenorchy with regular visits to our sites across the state. There’s real scope here to influence product development, contribute to industry forums, and lead from the front on sustainability and innovation.
