The Leaders This role reports to the Payroll Manager, a respected and empathetic leader who values structure, clarity, and growth. In partnership, this position will play a key part in guiding the day-to-day payroll function, leading a small team, and keeping quality and compliance front and centre. Working closely with two Payroll Advisors, you will play a true mentoring and technical leadership role within the team.
The Opportunity This is a technical and leadership role within a well-established federal government payroll environment. You’ll oversee the delivery of high-quality fortnightly payroll using Aurion, act as a key escalation point for complex queries, manage legislative compliance, and drive key improvement initiatives.
You’ll also support projects such as enterprise agreement updates, forms redesign, and intranet content reviews. This is an ideal step for someone looking to grow their leadership skills while staying close to the technical detail.
Specific responsibilities may include but not be limited to: - Leading payroll processing for over 500 staff, with a focus on accuracy, service and compliance
- Interpreting APS legislation, policies and enterprise agreements
- Managing more complex transactions (e.g. redundancies, under/over payments)
- Mentoring and supporting APS5 team members
- Driving process improvements and supporting system enhancements
- Supporting project delivery linked to payroll operations and audits
About You You offer a steady blend of experience and composure, with solid exposure in APS payroll, including mentoring or managing others. A deep understanding of complex employment conditions, proven capability in systems like Aurion, SAP or PeopleSoft, and the ability to thrive in high-volume environments is desirable! You will enjoy working in a small and collaborative team who enjoy what they do and the community in which they serve.
The Process The recruitment process will provide you with an opportunity to meet key stakeholders, ask questions and really understand the team and business. As such, the interview process will include an interview at Levyl, and one in-person interview with the Payroll Manager and a member of the P&C Team. The preferred candidate will be required to undergo background and reference checks prior to offer.
The salary on offer is commensurate with experience and within the target range of $95K to $110K + superannuation. The business offers genuine flexibility work arrangements to fit into your work life balance!
