Retrieval Consultant - Adult Retrieval Victoria

We are seeking a Retrieval Consultant to provide inter-hospital retrieval and critical care coordination for our Complex Care Department. Permanent part-time appointments (minimum commitment 2 shifts per week) available now.

Permanent appointments at ARV are subject to an initial 6-month fixed term onboarding and suitability assessment, unless applicants have worked for ARV previously. This competitive process will establish an Order of Merit, and this order of merit will be valid for the next 12 months if further positions become available.

About the role

Reporting to the Clinical Lead, responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Respond as required to assist in the transport of critically ill patients between hospitals as part of a multi-disciplinary team in accordance with policies and procedures
• Provide support, supervision, and training for ARV registrars
• Ensure that accurate and relevant patient documentation is recorded during the retrieval mission and the appropriate documentation relating to each retrieval is completed in accordance with ARV policies and procedures
• Coordination of critical care interhospital transfers

About you

To be considered for this position you will possess:

• Qualification as medical practitioner (MBBS or equivalent), registered in the state of Victoria
• Appropriate specialist medical qualifications, i.e. FACEM, FANZCA, FCICM, or equivalent
• Previous experience in the field of medical retrieval is essential, recent ARV or other retrieval experience is desirable
• Competence in video / telehealth consultation (desirable)
• Competence in interagency coordination (desirable)

The preferred candidate would also need to have the proven ability to operate under pressure in a stressful environment and appropriately handle information of a highly sensitive nature with interpersonal influencing skills. Having a knowledge of Victorian hospitals, healthcare systems/networks and the Victorian critical care system would be desirable.
