Metal Fabricator

Metal Fabricator carrying out metal fabrication and installation duties. You will be part of a skilled crew of trade employees delivering quality work for civil, transport, construction and infastructure projects.

Task & responsibilities

• Precast and on site fabrication duties
• Fabricate and assemble range of metal products for civil, commercial and industrial works, including balustrading, railings, structural roofing, structural beams, extensions, plant and working platforms, landings, security doors
• Construct and assemble metal casings for pre-cast jointing bays, plinths and pits
• Read, and follow drawings and specs to decide materials types and quantities required for projects
• Lay out, align and position parts using callipers, jigs welding torches and/or hand tools to fabricate parts and/or rework finished products
• Allows for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage
• Fabricate products and parts using processes including cutting rolling, heating, hammering, riveting, welding
• Contour, straighten warped and/or bent parts, inspect work for defects and measure work pieces
• Perform MIG and TIG welding and inspect and correct welds as necessary
• Notify management of any equipment needs repairs
• Ensure work is professionally finished to maintain consistently high standards
• Supervise and mentor fabrication apprentices in all aspects of their work

Qualification & experience

Skills: 

• Trade qualified or evidence of a minimum of 3 years full time relevant work experience in the role
• Fabrication experience
• Competent use of hand tools and fabrication equipment
• Knowledge of Australian fabrication and welding standards
• Good communication skills and attention to detail
