Mark off and fabricate structural steel and other metal stock to construct or repair metal products and structures, including boilers, pressure vessels, and frameworks.

Task & responsibilities

• Interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine job requirements
• Select, clean, and prepare metal stock for fabrication
• Cut metal sections using hand tools, flame cutting torches, and metal cutting machines
• Shape and bend metal using hand and machine tools, heating, and hammering
• Align and join metal components using welding, bolting, and riveting techniques
• Inspect welds for precision and structural integrity
• Finish products by cleaning, polishing, and smoothing welds

Qualification & experience

• AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV.
• three years of relevant experience may substitute for formal qualifications
