Fitter (General)

As a Fitter, you will install, maintain, and repair machinery, conveyors, and material handling systems across workshop and onsite settings. The role includes diagnosing faults, performing precision fitting, and carrying out maintenance, overhauls, and breakdown repairs while ensuring compliance with all safety protocols. You will also maintain records, follow technical drawings, and work closely with colleagues and clients to deliver reliable and efficient outcomes.

Task & responsibilities

The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

• Installing, assembling, and dismantling plant machinery, conveyors, and material handling systems.
• Performing precision fitting, alignment, and machining tasks to ensure equipment reliability.
• Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults, including breakdown response.
• Carrying out scheduled servicing, preventive maintenance, and equipment overhauls.
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and service manuals.
• Maintaining accurate records of defects, repairs, and parts used, and raising supply requests.
• Adhering to PPE and all workplace safety protocols.
• Supporting shutdown and commissioning projects within required timeframes.
• Maintaining high standards of housekeeping and safe work practices across all work areas.
• Communicating effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and clients to ensure smooth project delivery.

Qualification & experience

Candidates must meet the following prerequisites:

• Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade or related qualifications
• At least 2-3 years of relevant experience
• Proficient in mechanical assembly, fitting, and repairs
• Skilled in reading and interpreting technical drawings
• Experienced with lathe, milling, and other machine tools
• Familiar with WHS standards and safe work practices
