Energy Market & Operations Analyst

About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled Energy Market Analyst to join our Melbourne operations team. The successful candidate will play a key role in analysing market and operational data, forecasting outcomes, coordinating information flows with regulators and stakeholders, and preparing reports and recommendations to support asset performance in the NEM.

Key responsibilities include:

• Monitoring and analysing NEM dispatch, trading and weather data to identify risks and opportunities for client assets.
• Developing forecasting models, reports, and dashboards to support client operations and compliance.
• Evaluating automated bidding and trading system behaviour, identifying inefficiencies, and recommending improvements.
• Liaising with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), Network Service Providers and client representatives to ensure accurate and timely information flow.
• Preparing detailed reports and providing advice on regulatory changes, compliance obligations, and operational outcomes.
• Supporting client integration into Overwatch Energy’s operational and reporting systems.
• Assisting with re-bidding and outage coordination as part of information management and compliance functions.

Required skills, qualification and experience:

• Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar discipline, OR at least 3 years highly relevant experience in lieu of relevant qualification.
• At least 1-year experience as a spot market electricity analyst, with exposure to bidding and dispatch in the NEM.
• Strong knowledge of the NEM.
• Strong command of spoken and written English.
• High numerical ability and confidence with IT systems.
• Proficiency in MS Excel or other tools to manage large volumes of data.

Desirable but not required:

• Experience in plant control and semi-scheduled generation or battery storage.
• Knowledge or experience in plant SCADA and plant control systems.
• Proficiency in SQL (SQL Server or equivalent).
