Task & responsibilities

JOB DUTIES

• Log, prepare, and archive rock, soil, and core samples from field programs and drill campaigns.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain field and lab equipment (e.g. core saws, sample pulverisers, GPS units).
• Perform sieve, crusher, and milling procedures to prepare samples for geochemical and mineralogical analysis.
• Label and catalog samples, ensuring clear traceability and chain of custody.
• Assist geologists with basic field mapping, palaeo, and structural measurements.
• Support geophysical and geochemical data collection (e.g. sample collection, instrument deployment).
• Ensure high standards of QA/QC through duplicate, blank, and standard sample insertion.
• Maintain accurate electronic and physical records of samples and processes.
• Comply with workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures.
• Organise logistics for sample transport to external laboratories.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Deliver timely and accurate sample preparation and equipment support to enable geological and drilling activities.
• Maintain compliance with OH&S protocols and AES safety standards.
• Establish and uphold QA/QC procedures to support reliable data outputs.
• Execute routine maintenance on laboratory and field equipment.
• Support continuous improvement within field and lab operations.
• Provide clear communication to geologists, laboratory staff, and clients regarding sample readiness, integrity, and issues.

Qualification & experience

• Certificate IV or Diploma in Earth Science Technician, Laboratory Technology, or related field - professional experience may substitute the qualification. 
• Minimum 1 year’s experience in geological sample preparation, preferably in mining/exploration
• Strong technical skills with lab and field equipment
• Excellent attention to detail and QA/QC mindset
• Competency with MS Excel or geological database systems
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel to remote field sites
