Position Overview
This senior position, reporting to the Managing Director, is responsible for the delivery of all aspects of company project(s) under the incumbent's control. This includes the construction of the project to the agreed quality, cost and time constraints, and the provision of a safe and sustainable workplace. The incumbent is also responsible for the performance of all staff, sub-contractors and consultants working on each of their projects.
The delivery of all aspects of the project(s) to the agreed quality parameters.
This includes:
- Ensuring the quality of project is delivered at a consistently high level and to meet the requirements of the head contract.
- Establishing and maintaining a quality assurance/control system and ensuring the delivery team understand and implements its requirements.
- Understanding and implementing the requirements of the company Integrated Management system.
- Understanding the delivery team's role in achieving targeted ratings and outcomes and plan, resourcing and managing site team to ensure these are met.
- Managing consultant and client inspections in conjunction with the Site manager.
- Managing the project's design detailing and product selection and ensuring defect alerts are implemented and repetitive defects are eliminated, in conjunction with the Site Manager.
- Managing and ensuring approval of construction issue drawings and specs.
- Undertaking off site inspections for off-site delivery and fabrication activities.
- Control and distribute all project documentation.
- Ensuring a robust Request for Information (RFI) process is administered on the project.
- Collaborating with functional experts and other members of the peer group to ensure quality of the product.
- Ensuring the correct application of the company IMS across the project and ensuring any significant risks or major non compliances are addressed.
- Applying an effective sub-contractor selection and evaluation procedure.
- Assisting the Site Manager in leading the project/s Safety Leadership Team and ensure this forum adequately addresses issues raised.
- Preparing the Construction Phase HSE Plan and assisting the Site Manager and HSE coordinator in updating the document regularly throughout the project.
- Ensuring project records including but not limited to; safe work method statements, HSEQ plans, OHS coordination meeting minutes, are accurate and correctly updated and maintained.
- Ensuring the Project team understand the requirements of their individual roles and responsibilities (R&Rs) and have received adequate and appropriate training to discharge these duties and are evaluated annually against them.
- Ensuring the project/s is made up of skilled and capable teams.
Providing leadership by:
- Carrying out regular site visits,
- Verifying compliance safety standards, and
- Actively engaging with key project stakeholders to address any non-conformances.
- Ensuring a process exists whereby sub-contractors, employees and visitors understand the company vision and values, their OH&S obligations and are issued with the relevant PPE. Where appropriate involve senior management of subcontractors and suppliers in regular safety forums and meetings.
- Ensuring company and contractor supervision levels are maintained during all construction activity.
- Ensuring daily coordination of all significant works is undertaken and all necessary actions applied across the project.
- Reviewing and actioning key lessons learned from all incidents occurring on site.
- Rewarding excellence in HSE and conversely applying consequence management to any member of staff failing to discharge satisfactorily the responsibilities allocated to them under their R&Rs.
- Communicating corporate OHS requirements to clients and include HSE requirements, standards and contractual clauses are contained in all relevant contracts.
- Managing Crisis Management protocols for the project in line with the Australian Crisis Management Plan.
- Being actively involved in Drawing Reviews and ensure that constructability issues are identified and addressed.
- Identifying and delivering relevant aspects of project sustainability objectives and targets.
- Developing and communicating clear roles and responsibilities in delivering the project sustainability objectives and targets.
- Maintaining relevant sustainability core skills, competency and knowledge.
- A proven track record of innovation of the implementation of construction best-practice and the ability to implement such best practice in a dynamic and rapidly expanding environment
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Five to seven years' construction experience in the multi-apartment construction industry including the successful completion of at least three project construction cycles with commercial builders
- Undergraduate degree in engineering or construction management is recommended
- The ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally to all company stakeholder groups
