Position Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Chef to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play an integral role in creating and preparing a wide range of dishes, ensuring the highest standard of food quality and presentation. This position involves overseeing kitchen operations, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations, and working efficiently under pressure.


Task & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and develop menus, ensuring variety, quality, and seasonal relevance, while considering cost-effectiveness and customer preferences.
  • Estimate food and labour costs for menu items, ensuring efficient resource management and adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Order and manage food supplies, ensuring that stock levels are maintained and inventory is regularly reviewed to meet operational needs.
  • Oversee the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation, ensuring that all food served meets the highest culinary standards.
  • Collaborate with Managers, Dietitians, and kitchen and waiting staff to discuss food preparation techniques, menu items, and dietary requirements to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Demonstrate cooking techniques to kitchen staff and advise on procedures, providing guidance to ensure the team maintains high-quality cooking standards.
  • Prepare and cook food to order, ensuring efficiency and adherence to food safety standards while maintaining exceptional food quality.
  • Enforce strict hygiene regulations, ensuring the kitchen adheres to health and safety standards at all times.
  • Select and train kitchen staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment and ensuring continuous development of team members.
  • Manage the freezing and preservation of food items to extend shelf life and minimize waste, while ensuring quality and compliance with health regulations.

Qualification & experience

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 2+ years of full-time recent experience as a Chef in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen hygiene practices.
  • Excellent culinary skills with a focus on quality and presentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Desirable Skills:

  • Formal culinary qualifications are highly regarded such as Cert III/Cert IV/ Diploma in commercial cookery.
  • Experience with modern cuisine or in a similar high-end dining establishment is an advantage.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary of $75,000 to $85,000 (excluding superannuation).
