Task & responsibilities
- Study drawings and specifications to determine materials required, dimensions, and installation procedures.
- Order and select timbers and materials, and prepare layouts for construction.
- Measure, cut, shape, and assemble timber and other materials using hand and power tools.
- Construct and install frameworks, roof trusses, sub-flooring, floorboards, staircases, doors, windows, and cabinetry.
- Nail fascia panels, sheathe roofs, and fit exterior wall cladding and door/window frames.
- Assemble prepared wood to form structures and fittings ready for installation.
- Cut wood joints and may work with plastic laminates, perspex, and metals.
- Construct and install concrete formwork as needed.
- Repair and renovate existing wooden fittings and structures.
- Install fixtures such as door handles, locks, hardware, flooring underlay, suspended ceilings, and insulating materials.
- Level sites by removing scrub, timber, rocks, and other foreign material to prepare for construction.
- Dig holes for footings, spread and level soil, gravel, and sand on roads, driveways, and trench bottoms.
- Load and unload construction materials, tools, and equipment.
- Erect and dismantle temporary structures such as barricades and scaffolding around work sites.
- Collect and remove rubble and waste material from sites.
- Perform other duties as directed, ensuring compliance with safety and building regulations.
- Work both in a team and autonomously, under the guidance of Leading Hands and Site Supervisors
Qualification & experience
- Certificate III in Carpentry or equivalent trade qualification, or 3 years of experience, will replace a formal qualification.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and tools.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans.
- Physical strength and stamina to perform manual tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
- Commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transport.
