Role Overview:
At The Common Bistro the Bar Attendant Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring the smooth and professional operation of the bar, delivering the relaxed yet high-quality service that our venue is known for. This role oversees day-to-day bar service, supervising and supporting staff to maintain a high standard of customer care, efficiency and product knowledge.
The Bar Attendant Supervisor also assists in maintaining the welcoming atmosphere of the bar and bistro by handling customer enquiries and resolving issues promptly. Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills are essential to ensure the bar team works effectively in a busy, community-focused, hospitality environment.
This position reports directly to the Front of House Manager/ Venue Manager and Director

Task & responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcoming guests on arrival & serving them an array of drinks at the bar.
- Answering phone calls for bookings, takeaway orders and general inquiries.
- Taking guest orders at the bar
- Ensuring responsible alcohol service is given to guests and helping other colleagues implement this.
- Pouring drinks and making cocktails.
- Managing payments and refunds.
- Restocking bottles, straws, coasters and kegs.
- Clearing and washing glasses
- Checking stock and liaising with managers.
- Handling complaints and informing the manager on shift.
- Changing kegs and post mixes.
- Routine deep cleaning of the bar.
- Training new bar staff
- Supervising bar staff on duty
- Preparing garnishes for cocktails (cutting and dehydrating fruits).
- Assisting juniors with service, delivering food and checking back on customers.
- Closing down the bar and cashing up the tills.
- Routine deep cleaning of glasses and cocktail utensils and all bar/restaurant areas.
- Cleaning of premises during and after shift.
- Attending staff meetings with managers and other staff.
- Other on shift supervisory tasks as assigned by senior management
Skills:
- Strong leadership and staff supervision skills
- Excellent customer service and communication
- Sound beverage knowledge and RSA compliance
- Experience with rostering, stock control and cash handling
- Knowledge of licensing, hygiene and safety requirements
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work full-time, year-round.
- May be required to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in a demanding hospitality environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- RSA certificate (preferred- can be provided for)
- Approved Managers certificate (preferred- can be provided for)
Qualification & experience
Qualifications Required:
- A relevantAQF, or equivalent, certificate II, or
- A relevantAQF, or equivalent, certificate III, or
- At least 1 year of relevant, full-time, work experience to substitute for the formal qualifications listed above.
