The successful candidate will operate heavy trucks to transport goods safely and efficiently between designated locations. The role involves vehicle inspections, loading and unloading, securing and checking cargo, completing delivery documentation, and complying with road transport and workplace safety requirements.

Task & responsibilities

• Drive and manoeuvre heavy trucks safely to designated locations for loading and unloading.
• Position vehicles appropriately for loading and unloading operations.
• Load and unload goods using appropriate lifting, tipping or other equipment where required.
• Observe workplace, road and load-handling safety requirements during loading and unloading.
• Conduct regular pre-start and safety checks of the truck and report defects or issues that may affect safe operation.
• Check vehicle condition, including relevant equipment, tyres and other safety components.
• Estimate and monitor load weights to comply with applicable load limits and ensure appropriate weight distribution.
• Check goods and freight against relevant loading and delivery documentation.
• Verify delivery details and obtain required delivery certifications or acknowledgements.
• Follow assigned routes, delivery schedules and company procedures.
• Comply with applicable road transport laws, fatigue-management requirements and workplace health and safety procedures.
• Report accidents, incidents, delays, vehicle faults or damaged goods promptly to the appropriate person.
• Maintain a professional and courteous approach when dealing with customers, suppliers and other road users.

Qualification & experience

• AQF Certificate II or III in Driving Operations or relevant field (preferred)
•  Minimum 1-3 years of relevant truck driving experience
•  Valid Heavy Vehicle Driver’s Licence (HR/HC/MC as required)
• Demonstrated experience in operating heavy vehicles safely and responsibly.
• Knowledge of safe loading, unloading, cargo securing and weight-distribution requirements.
• Ability to complete vehicle safety checks and identify/report mechanical or safety issues.
• Good communication, reliability and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently and follow delivery schedules and company procedures.
