We are seeking a qualified and experienced Carpenter to undertake practical carpentry activities within our vocational training facilities and workshop environment. The position involves performing a broad range of carpentry work while also supporting maintenance operations and junior team members during practical workshop activities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring carpentry work is completed accurately, safely and in accordance with plans, specifications and required industry standards.

Task & responsibilities

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Studying and interpreting drawings, plans and specifications to determine materials required, dimensions and installation procedures.
  • Selecting and preparing timber and other construction materials, including measuring, marking, cutting and shaping materials to required specifications.
  • Constructing, assembling and installing timber wall, floor, ceiling and roof framing and other structural components.
  • Performing first and second fix carpentry, including the installation of doors, door frames, windows, skirting boards, architraves and other fixtures and fittings.
  • Assembling and installing timber structures and components using appropriate hand tools, power tools and woodworking machinery.
  • Checking the accuracy and alignment of completed work using measuring instruments and ensuring work conforms to plans, specifications and required tolerances.
  • Repairing, replacing and maintaining timber structures, fixtures and building components as required.
  • Safely operating and maintaining carpentry tools, equipment and machinery in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Coordinating carpentry activities and providing practical guidance to apprentices and junior team members.
  • Constructing, modifying, and maintaining structural mock-ups, framing modules, and timber training rigs required for practical workshop classes.

Qualification & experience

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong practical carpentry skills, experience across structural and finishing carpentry, the ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications, and a sound understanding of safe working practices. They will have excellent attention to detail and the ability to work independently while providing practical guidance and support to others.

A relevant Certificate III in Carpentry, together with substantial practical industry experience of minimum 5 years, is highly desirable.
