Task & responsibilities
- Inspect ingredients and produce on arrival and during preparation to make sure they meet our quality and freshness standards
- Set and monitor the temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers and other kitchen equipment for safe and consistent cooking
- Prepare and cook a wide range of dishes according to our recipes and presentation standards
- Season and adjust dishes throughout cooking to achieve the right flavour and balance
- Portion and plate meals, finishing them with the appropriate sauces, gravies and garnishes
- Store food correctly in temperature-controlled areas, following food safety and stock rotation procedures
- Prepare meals that cater to customers' dietary needs, allergies and special requests
- Assist with menu planning and estimate ingredient quantities and food orders as required
- Guide, train and support junior kitchen staff and apprentices
- Prepare, season and cook food to a high standard within a dining and catering environment
Qualification & experience
- 1–3 years of relevant experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen
- A relevant qualification in commercial cookery (e.g. Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent)
- Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy services
- A reliable, team-focused attitude and good communication skills
- Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays
