Our kitchen is central to the business, with a strong focus on quality ingredients, consistent food preparation and presentation, efficient service, and high standards of food safety and hygiene.

We are currently seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Cook to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis.

About the Position

The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing, cooking and presenting a range of dishes in accordance with established recipes, menu requirements and quality standards.

This position is suited to an experienced Cook who can work effectively in a busy commercial kitchen and contribute to the efficient preparation and delivery of meals during service periods.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful Cook will be responsible for:

• Preparing ingredients and food items for cooking, including washing, cutting, measuring, portioning and other food preparation activities.
• Cooking and preparing dishes in accordance with established recipes, menu requirements and quality standards.
• Operating grills, ovens, stovetops and other commercial cooking equipment as required.
• Monitoring food during preparation and cooking to ensure appropriate taste, texture, temperature and presentation.
• Checking the quality and freshness of ingredients before use.
• Ensuring food is appropriately portioned and presented before service.
• Coordinating food preparation and cooking activities to ensure meals are completed efficiently and within required service times.
• Following established kitchen procedures and preparation schedules.
• Monitoring food usage and minimising unnecessary food wastage.
• Assisting with stock rotation and ensuring ingredients and food products are stored appropriately.
• Receiving and appropriately storing food supplies and ingredients where required.
• Ensuring food is prepared, handled and stored in accordance with applicable food safety and hygiene requirements.
• Maintaining clean and organised food preparation, cooking and storage areas.
• Cleaning cooking equipment, utensils and work areas as required.
• Operating kitchen equipment safely and reporting maintenance or safety issues where necessary.
• Working collaboratively with Chefs, other kitchen staff, management and front-of-house employees to support efficient service.
• Maintaining consistency in the preparation, cooking, portioning and presentation of dishes.
• Following workplace health and safety procedures and established kitchen standards.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this position, applicants should have:

• Minimum Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent relevant qualification. 
• Minimum 1 year of relevant experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen environment. 
• Demonstrated knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and presentation. 
• Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements. 
• Ability to follow recipes and established food preparation procedures. 
• Ability to maintain consistent food quality and presentation. 
• Strong organisational and time-management skills. 
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. 
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service periods. 
• Flexibility to work a rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays where required.

Salary and Employment

This is a full-time position offering a salary package of $75,000 – $85,000 per annum, commensurate with the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to join an established hospitality business and become an integral member of the Merchant & Maker kitchen team.
