About the role
We are currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic cook to assist the head chef in managing our kitchen team. This is an above-award salaried position with varying shifts over seven days, depending on the needs of the business. This is a hands-on leadership role, being responsible for all kitchen processes and management.
Your tasks will include but are not limited to
- Prepare, cook and present a variety of meals in accordance with recipes, menu specifications and quality standards.
- Prepare ingredients for service, including washing, cutting, portioning and marinating food.
- Ensure all food is prepared and presented to a consistently high standard.
- Monitor food quality throughout all stages of preparation, cooking and presentation.
- Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen in accordance with food safety and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation and hygiene regulations at all times.
- Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering food supplies, ingredients and kitchen equipment.
- Assist with menu planning, the development of new dishes and seasonal menu updates.
- Assist with estimating food requirements and minimising food wastage through effective stock rotation and portion control.
- Coordinate food preparation with other kitchen staff to ensure efficient and timely service.
- Assist with training and mentoring junior kitchen staff in food preparation techniques and safe work practices.
- Demonstrate appropriate cooking techniques and provide guidance to other kitchen staff where required.
- Perform other kitchen duties as reasonably directed to support the efficient operation of the kitchen.
Your skills and experience
- Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or an equivalent qualification.
- Previous experience working as a Cook or Sous Chef in a busy commercial kitchen.
- Highly developed communication and leadership skills.
- Proven ability of kitchen management.
- Up to date with culinary trends and optimized kitchen processes.
- Credentials in health and safety training.
