The Surveying Technician is responsible for supporting surveying operations across projects, including pipelines, roads, bridges, buildings, and feature surveys. Working under the guidance of a Survey Manager and collaborating closely with other Surveyors, this role provides hands-on experience in survey data collection, evaluating survey data, preparing plans, and drafting.

Key Responsibilities
1. Surveying and Fieldwork
• Work under the guidance of a Survey Manager to complete assigned survey tasks.
• Assist in performing setouts, data collection, and survey mark placement.
• Ensure accurate filing, reduction, and processing of survey data.
• Read and interpret engineering plans relevant to project requirements.
• Maintain clear communication with project teams regarding site timeframes and deliverables.
• Record all survey works in the survey controller as per company standards.
2. Drafting and Office-Based Support
• Assist in producing basic survey plans and documentation under the direction of a Survey Manager.
• Process survey data and ensure accuracy in reporting.
• Support the preparation of as-built drawings, volume calculations, and conformance reports.
• Performing routine computations and plotting preliminary data
3. Equipment & Vehicle Management
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, and transport survey equipment.
• Ensure all survey instruments and tools are in good working condition.
• Maintain company vehicles, ensuring regular servicing, oil, water, and tire checks
4. Health, Safety and Compliance
• Follow OH&S procedures and safety standards as required.
• Ensure Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) are completed where necessary.
• Attend regular OH&S meetings to stay up to date with industry safety protocols.
Key Skills and Competencies
• Knowledge: Knowledge of surveying techniques and principles.
• Knowledge: Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in survey tasks.
• Effective time management and communication skills.
• Willingness to learn and follow survey procedures and quality standards.
• Basic proficiency in surveying software and data processing tools (AutoCAD, 12d Model, Trimble Business Center, etc.).
• Adaptability to different project sites and working conditions.
Qualifications and Licenses
• Qualifications: Certificate III in Surveying (minimum dependant on experience)
• Certifications: Working with Children’s Check
• Licenses: Valid driver's license essential for travel between sites
