Serving the local community, we offer a wide array of products including news and magazines, stationery, giftware, greeting cards, and official NSW Lotteries services. We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Retail Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Maroubra store. This pivotal role requires an energetic leader who can maintain store efficiency, manage inventory and personnel, drive business growth, and maintain our high standards of customer care.

Task & responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the day-to-day retail operations of newsagency.
  • Lead, motivate and supervise store team memebers to maintain high standards of customer service and store operations.
  • Prepare staff rosters, allocate daily workloads and manage labour costs.
  • Assist with staff recruitment, induction, training, and ongoing development.
  • Monitor staff performance and provide appropriate guidance and support.
  • Determine appropriate product mix, stock level, and service standards based on customer demand and store performance.
  • Manage stock ordering, receiving, pricing, storage, replenishment and merchandising.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels and minimise shortages, excess stock and wastage.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to stock sales and retail transactions.
  • Laise with suppliers to support product availability and timely stock replenishment.
  • Monitor product pricing and assist with purchasing and pricing decisions.
  • Review customer demand and sales performance to identify opportunities to improve retail operations.
  • Implement appropriate promotional, merchandising and product -display activities to support sales.
  • Ensure magazine, greeting card, stationary, giftware and other retail products are appropriately stocked, priced and attractively displayed.
  • Maintain high standards of store presentation, cleanliness and organisation.
  • Provide excellent customer service and assist customers with product enquiries and selection.
  • Oversee point-of-sale, cash-handling and EFTPOS procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate procedures are followed for NSW Lotteries products and services.
  • Monitor store operating expense and contribute to effective financial and operational management.
  • Provide relevant operational and sales information to the business owner/director.
  • Identify opportunities to improve store efficiency, customer service and retail performance.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and company procedures.


Qualification & experience

  • Proven leadership with strong personnel and workflow management skills.
  • Relevant qualification, minimum diploma or higher in Business, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • Previous experience in  customer-focused retail environment.
  • Knowledge of retail merchandising, purchasing, stock management and promotional activities.
  • Minimum three to five years of experience in retail management.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, with the ability to resolve customer enquiries professionally.
  • Great organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions.
  • Proficient in retail Point of Sale (POS) software, inventory systems, and basic financial reporting.
  • Ability to work effectively in a busy, customer-focused retail environment.
