A Federal Government authority is seeking a Data Platform Architect (Microsoft) to provide strategic guidance to migrate from Power BI premium across to Microsoft Fabric and design modern data architecture patterns that enable advanced analytics and data science capabilities. You will be working in the Data Platform Services Team which is responsible for designing, delivering, and maintaining a modern, scalable enterprise-wide data platform that supports the organisations analytical and operational needs.
Contract Details:
Initial 6 month contract with extension options out to June 30 2029 (3 years total)
Estimated start date July 2026 (pending onboarding and Availability)
Baseline Security clearance required (you must be an Australian Citizen to go through the vetting process).
Full time 40-hour work week. This is an hourly rate contract
This role can be located in Sydney NSW or Canberra ACT
Hybrid working options - 3 days in office and 2 days remote
Desired Experience:
Strong expertise in Azure data platform architecture (Data Lake Storage, ADF, Fabric, Data Factory, Databricks)
The ability to design Data platform solutions that support advanced capabilities such as self-service analytics and data science.
Hands-on experience enabling/implementing Microsoft Fabric workloads (Lakehouse, Data Science, Data Engineering, Governance).
Knowledge of Medallion/Lakehouse architecture
Strong data modelling skills across conceptual, logical, and physical layers along with leading modelling for data warehouses, semantic models, and enterprise data layers.
Understanding of advanced analytics and data science pipelines, including ML integration patterns.
Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Purview or Fabric governance tools.
Ability to integrate geospatial data into the Azure data platform and enable integration and interoperability with GIS tools such as ArcGIS, ArcGIS Pro, and Azure Maps
Ability to provide architectural leadership and define target-state data platform architecture
