Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future. 

Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.

We currently have an opportunity for a Cybersecurity Engineer in Canberra to work on Defence Joint CJC03 projects.

What You’ll Do

This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including:

• Design, implement and maintain ICT systems and security controls aligned to Defence frameworks including ISM, Essential 8 and NIST standards
• Support secure system administration, configuration and change management across enterprise environments
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver secure, resilient and compliant solutions across CJC03 program requirements
• Monitor, assess and respond to system vulnerabilities, threats and compliance gaps across network and cloud environments
• Contribute to continuous improvement of cyber security posture, including documentation, risk assessments and accreditation activities

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
• Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or CISA (or working towards) highly regarded
• Strong understanding of ISM, Essential 8 and NIST SP 800-55 frameworks
• Experience across ICT system administration, networking, security controls implementation and change management
• Familiarity with operating systems (Windows Server, Linux, macOS), virtualisation (VMware/Hyper-V), cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and security tooling (firewalls, IDS, endpoint protection)
• Experience within Defence environment, in particular CASG, will be highly regarded

Due to the nature of the work, the successful applicant must hold and maintain an AGSVA Security Clearance, as required by the Commonwealth. In some cases, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) may also be required.
