About the Role
IKARIA is seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join our busy kitchen team in Bondi. The successful applicant will work in a fast-paced hospitality environment, assisting the Chef in preparing and presenting high-quality meals while maintaining excellent food safety and kitchen standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare all food items as directed in a timely manner.
- Prepare and cook meats, fish, vegetables, and sauces.
- Ensure food is appropriately seasoned and prepared to a high standard.
- Serve food in appropriate portions, including plating and garnishing dishes.
- Prepare meals for customers with food allergies or dietary intolerances.
- Maintain high standards of food quality by checking cooked food, stock quality, and food temperatures.
- Operate cooking equipment, including ovens and grills, and regulate temperatures as required.
- Store food appropriately in temperature-controlled storage areas using suitable containers and trays.
- Assist with cleaning, sanitation, and organisation of the kitchen, cool room, and storage areas.
- Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications set by the Chef.
- Remain productive during service and prepare for upcoming kitchen requirements where possible.
- Contribute ideas and suggestions to the Chef during menu planning.
- Assist with training apprentices and other kitchen staff when required.
- Restock kitchen items and supplies before and after shifts.
- Report equipment maintenance issues, breakages, or poor-quality stock to the Chef promptly.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of relevant work experience as a Cook or in a similar role
- AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or equivalent OR relevant experience of at least 3 years may substitute for formal qualifications where applicable
- Strong knowledge of kitchen operations and food safety practices
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced team environment
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Availability to work weekends and flexible shifts
