This full-time, permanent position puts you in charge of our kitchen’s direction. You’ll plan and create fresh, seasonal menus that highlight top Australian produce, while serving the breakfasts, lunches, house-baked treats, and daily specials our customers enjoy. You’ll oversee all aspects of our busy kitchen, including budgeting, cost control, ordering, inventory management, and leading a dedicated team. Your focus will be on maintaining consistent quality, presentation, and flavour across every dish, even during busy times. Making sure we meet food safety and hygiene standards is essential. You’ll also help coordinate smooth service during peak hours and assist with staff scheduling and hiring when needed.

Task & responsibilities

  • Design and implement menus that highlight fresh Australian ingredients and contemporary café classics.
  • Oversee comprehensive kitchen operations, encompassing budgeting, cost control, procurement, and inventory management.
  • Direct and motivate kitchen staff through effective rostering, training, and performance management.
  • Supervise food preparation, cooking, and plating to ensure high-quality, consistent, and presentable results.
  • Ensure strict adherence to food safety protocols, hygiene standards, and health regulations.
  • Coordinate efficient kitchen service during peak periods and manage high-volume operational demands.
  • Support staff recruitment and onboarding processes as required.

Qualification & experience

  • You have a diploma or higher qualification in Commercial Cookery (or a similar field), or at least three years of relevant industry experience.
  • You have at least one to two years of full-time experience as a Head Chef or senior chef in a busy café or restaurant.
  • You can demonstrate strong skills in menu planning, budgeting, team leadership, and stock or inventory management.
  • You have a solid understanding of food safety and hygiene standards. A valid certification is preferred.
  • You can work on weekends and public holidays and handle a fast-paced environment.
  • You have the right to work full-time in Australia.
  • You are reliable, motivated, and committed to high standards, and can provide two recent industry references.
