Task & responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and present menu items in accordance with café standards
• Ensure consistency in the quality, taste, and presentation of food
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen in accordance with food safety standards
• Assist in menu planning, recipe development, and special event catering
• Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering, and minimise food waste
• Ensure all food is prepared on time and served promptly during service hours
• Supervise and support junior kitchen staff where applicable
• Work collaboratively with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service delivery

Qualification & experience

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a commercial kitchen, preferably in a café or casual dining setting
• Knowledge of café cuisine, modern Australian dishes, and breakfast/lunch menus
• Understanding of food safety, hygiene practices, and kitchen procedures
• Ability to work under pressure during peak service hours
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and public holidays
• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent (preferred)
• Food Safety Supervisor certification is desirable
