The Business Development Engineer – Aerospace, Defence & Space is responsible for identifying, developing, and converting commercial opportunities for cold spray products, services, and applications, with a particular focus on space, aerospace, defence, and advanced manufacturing customers. The role combines technical understanding of cold spray technology and its engineering applications with customer engagement, solution development, proposal preparation, and commercial relationship management.

Task & responsibilities

The key responsibilities are: 

  • Identify and develop new business opportunities for cold spray products, services, and technical solutions across the space, aerospace, defence, and advanced manufacturing sectors. 
  • Engage with prospective and existing customers to understand technical requirements, manufacturing challenges, and application needs
  • Develop and execute targeted lead generation campaigns across key industry verticals
  • Assess customer components, use cases, and engineering requirements to determine where cold spray technology may provide a suitable technical and commercial solution. 
  • Present and explain cold spray capabilities, process benefits, application limitations, and proposed solutions to customers and industry stakeholders. 
  • Prepare technical-commercial proposals, capability statements, quotations, presentation material, and bid support documentation. 
  • Support early-stage customer discussions relating to repair, restoration, coating, material build-up, part manufacture, and other cold spray-enabled solutions. 
  • Work with internal engineering, operations, and production teams to translate customer requirements into feasible technical scopes and commercial proposals. 
  • Maintain and grow relationships with key customers, strategic partners, suppliers, and industry stakeholders in target sectors. 
  • Monitor customer demand, market developments, competitor activity, and industry trends relevant to cold spray, advanced manufacturing, and space applications. 
  • Represent the company at customer meetings, technical reviews, trade events, conferences, and industry networking opportunities. 
  • Support contract progression, order conversion, and handover from business development to delivery teams. 
  • Maintain accurate records of leads, opportunities, customer interactions, proposals, and commercial progress. 
  • Contribute to business development strategy for expansion into technical industrial and space-related markets.

Qualification & experience

The ideal candidate will have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years of technical experience in cold spray for space applications.
  • Experience and ability to use cold spray equipment.
  • Relevant experience in technical sales, business development, application engineering, or customer-facing engineering roles. 
  • Demonstrated understanding of cold spray technology, thermal spray, advanced manufacturing, surface engineering, or related industrial processes. 
  • Ability to engage credibly with technical customers and translate engineering requirements into practical commercial solutions. 
  • Strong knowledge of aerospace, space, defence, or industrial manufacturing environments. 
  • Experience preparing technical proposals, quotations, capability presentations, and customer-facing commercial documentation. 
  • Strong communication, relationship management, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills. 
  • Ability to work across technical and commercial teams to support opportunity conversion and project initiation.
