About the Role

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Carpenter who is capable of independently carrying out carpentry work, interpreting plans and specifications, preparing materials, constructing frameworks and installing and repairing structural components and fixtures.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Study and interpret drawings, plans and specifications to determine required materials, dimensions and installation procedures.
  • Select, measure and prepare timber and other construction materials and prepare layouts for carpentry works.
  • Measure, cut, shape and assemble timber and other materials using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Assemble and securely fix cut and shaped components to construct structures and fittings.
  • Construct and erect wall frames, roof framing and other structural frameworks in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Lay sub-flooring and floorboards and check structures for level, alignment, accuracy and trueness.
  • Install fascia panels, roof sheathing, exterior wall cladding and other building components.
  • Fit and install door frames, window frames, doors and associated fixtures.
  • Assemble prepared timber and other materials to form structures and fittings ready for installation.
  • Measure, mark and cut timber joints accurately to suit construction and installation requirements.
  • Construct and install concrete formwork where required.
  • Inspect, repair, renovate and replace damaged or deteriorated timber structures, fittings and fixtures.
  • Work with materials including timber, plywood, wallboard, lightweight steel and other relevant construction materials.
  • Ensure completed carpentry work complies with project drawings, specifications, quality requirements and applicable building standards.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and follow workplace health and safety requirements at all times.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, tradespeople and other construction personnel to ensure work is completed efficiently and within project schedules.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate should have:

  • Relevant trade qualification in Carpentry, such as Certificate III in Carpentry, or an equivalent qualification.
  • Relevant practical experience as a Carpenter.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans and specifications.
  • Demonstrated skills in measuring, cutting, shaping, assembling and installing timber and other construction materials.
  • Experience in framing, flooring, roofing components, doors, windows, cladding and general carpentry works.
  • Competence in the safe use of carpentry hand tools, power tools and construction equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, high-quality workmanship.
  • Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety practices within the construction industry.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a construction team.
  • Good communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Relevant construction licences, registrations or White Card where required.
