Task & responsibilities

Dutues & Responsibilities: 

• Assist the surgeon with clinical examination of eyes, including patient eye pressures, visual acuity, corneal topography and refraction.
• Pre-Cataract Assessment including calculating IOL Power and ordering of lenses
• Preoperative Pentacam
• Assist the surgeon in refractive surgical procedures including PRESBYOND, SMILE, LASIK and PRK
• Evaluate Strabismus / Squints
• Act as patient screener / advisor, providing guidance about the different types of refractive surgery available.

Essential Requirements: 

• Be proficient in the programming, operation and ongoing management of Zeiss Visumax platform and MEL90 Excimer laser.
• Be fully conversant with Pachymetry and Perimetry (HUMPHERY) perimeters.
• Function in a highly organized, and time efficient manner at all times.
• Be able to problem solve in a surgical setting, meeting surgery timelines and carrying out required tasks.
• Assisting the Surgeon to create, define, refine and manage Refractive protocols, procedures and workflows.Ensure all specialist medical services are delivered in a smooth and efficient manner.
• Assist the Surgeon with clinical examination of Eyes, including patient eye pressures, Visual acuity, Corneal Topography and refraction

Qualification & experience

• Relevant qualification at the level of a diploma or higher.
• Minimum two years’ experience required.
• Experience with cloud based patient management / practice management software or similar medical practice software.
• A well-developed knowledge base of Private billing for consultations and surgical procedures.
• Must have proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Demonstrated outstanding customer service and people skills.
• The ability to relate well to patients and communicate with health care professionals/external health facilities as needed.
• Demonstrate a high level of motivation and operate in cooperation with a surgical team with attention to detail.
• Demonstrate an ability to multi-task within a fast-paced working environment. There is a high degree of patient admin.
• Be able to take direction.
• Work unsupervised and under own initiative.
