As the Hotel or Motel Manager, you will organise and control the daily operations of the property, including guest accommodation, reception, housekeeping, food and beverage services, maintenance and customer service. You will lead and develop staff, oversee budgets and purchasing, maintain compliance, and implement operational improvements to support guest satisfaction and business performance.

Task & responsibilities
- Direct and oversee reservation, reception, check-in/check-out, guest enquiries and accommodation services.
- Manage and supervise housekeeping, room service, laundry and cleaning activities to ensure rooms and common areas meet presentation and hygiene standards.
- Plan, coordinate and supervise restaurant, bar, breakfast, function and conference activities, where applicable.
- Recruit, train, roster, supervise and evaluate reception, housekeeping, food and beverage, maintenance and other hotel/motel staff.
- Monitor guest feedback, resolve complaints promptly and implement improvements to maintain high levels of guest satisfaction.
- Oversee security arrangements and coordinate property, garden, grounds and maintenance activities to ensure the premises are safe, secure and well maintained.
- Manage purchasing, stock control and supplier relationships for accommodation, food, beverage, linen, cleaning and operational supplies.
- Prepare and monitor budgets, revenue, expenditure, occupancy, room rates, payroll and other financial reports.
- Oversee cash handling, point-of-sale transactions, daily takings, banking and reconciliation procedures.
- Develop and implement pricing, promotional and sales strategies to increase occupancy, food and beverage sales, functions and overall revenue.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements, food safety obligations, liquor licensing, gaming requirements where applicable, and other relevant laws and regulations.
- Review operational procedures and introduce improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce costs and improve guest services.
- Provide guests with local tourism information and, where required, assist with arranging transport, tours and local activities.
Qualification & experience
- Minimum AQF Diploma or higher qualification in a relevant or closely related field.
- Minimum 1 (one) year of experience in retail management or a similar role.
- Strong leadership, staff supervision, rostering and customer service skills.
- Experience with reservations, guest services, housekeeping, budgets and purchasing.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety, food safety, liquor licensing and hospitality compliance.
