$79,423 - $85,000 Annual

The duties of this position would be performed in our Gingin Farm located at 120 Douglas Road, Gingin, WA 6503.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Perform daily checks and record the health status and behaviour of animals in your care 
  • Ensure that animal records are accurate and up to date, collecting and submitting data for regulatory compliance, financial operations and human resources management of breeding colonies through tasks which may include matings, weaning, transfer of stock animals and issuing of information or notifications to concerned party/parties
  • Apply skills to a varied range of different tasks relating to animal care, including performing basic technical procedures of injections and sample collections of animal body fluids, faeces or tissue for analysis or veterinary inspection. 
  • Assist with breeding and raising livestock
  • Perform routine inspections and delivery of essential animal husbandry tasks 
  • Monitor livestock to evaluate feed effectiveness and support nutrition management
  • Participate in controlled breeding programs to improve livestock strains
  • Perform artificial insemination, pregnancy testing, and lactation management
  • Provide advice on breeding selection and techniques
  • Monitor animal health and welfare, ensuring high standards of care
  • Collect and analyze data for research and animal husbandry improvements
  • Clean all husbandry related equipment and maintain animal facilities in a safe, clean and well-organised state
  • Monitor equipment and infrastructure to ensure reliable and safe operation; initiate repairs and maintenance in accordance with relevant approval procedures and manage the ordering and use of consumables to ensure economic operation and continuity of supply

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Previous experience in animal husbandry or animal care is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of animal welfare practices and handling.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including lifting, standing, and handling animals for extended periods.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of farm equipment and tools is a plus.
  • Ability to follow instructions and attention to detail in maintaining accurate records.
  • A passion for animal care and a commitment to their well-being.

SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • A Diploma in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with poultry or fowl is a must.
  • Familiarity with animal health regulations and standards.
