Utsav Indian Restaurant is seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join our team on a full-time basis. We are looking for someone with strong food preparation and cooking skills who can assist in delivering high-quality Indian cuisine while maintaining excellent standards of food safety, hygiene and presentation.

The role provides ongoing full-time employment, practical exposure to a wide range of traditional Indian dishes and cooking techniques, and the opportunity to contribute directly to food quality, consistency and customer satisfaction at Utsav Indian Restaurant.

Task & responsibilities

• Preparing and cooking a variety of Indian dishes in accordance with established recipes and restaurant standards.
• Preparing ingredients, including vegetables, meat, poultry, seafood, spices and sauces, for daily food service.
• Cooking and presenting curries, rice dishes, breads, entrees and other Indian dishes.
• Operating cooking equipment including ovens, grills, fryers, stovetops and other commercial kitchen equipment.
• Checking the quality and freshness of ingredients before preparation and cooking.
• Monitoring cooking temperatures and ensuring food is cooked and stored safely.
• Seasoning and portioning food appropriately during preparation and cooking.
• Ensuring dishes are prepared consistently and presented to the required restaurant standards.
• Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene of food preparation areas, equipment and kitchen facilities.
• Following food safety, workplace health and safety and hygiene requirements.
• Receiving and storing food supplies appropriately.
• Monitoring stock levels and assisting with stock rotation to minimise food wastage.
• Working effectively with other kitchen staff to ensure meals are prepared and served efficiently during busy service periods.
• Assisting with the preparation of food for dine-in, takeaway and catering orders as required.

Qualification & experience

• A minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen.
• Must have Certificate IV in Kitcehn Management of higher education. 
• Demonstrated knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.
• Experience preparing Indian cuisine and familiarity with Indian spices, ingredients and traditional cooking methods.
• Ability to prepare food consistently according to recipes and restaurant standards.
• Good understanding of food safety and kitchen hygiene requirements.
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy commercial kitchen environment.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a kitchen team.
• Flexibility to work according to the restaurant's roster, including evenings, weekends and public holidays where required.
