Task & responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a wide variety of authentic Indian dishes in accordance with established recipes and restaurant standards.
• Prepare ingredients by chopping, marinating, seasoning, portioning and undertaking other food preparation activities.
• Cook curries, tandoori dishes, breads, rice dishes, sauces and other menu items.
• Maintain consistency in flavour, presentation and portion sizes.
• Coordinate food preparation to ensure meals are prepared and served efficiently during busy service periods.
• Follow food safety, hygiene and sanitation requirements at all times.
• Monitor food and ingredient stock levels and assist with stock rotation.
• Minimise food wastage through appropriate storage and portion control.
• Work collaboratively with chefs, cooks, kitchen hands and other team members.
• Assist with the preparation and introduction of new menu items and daily specials.
• Maintain kitchen equipment, utensils and work areas in a clean and hygienic condition.

Essential Skills and Abilities

• Good knowledge of Indian cuisine, spices and traditional cooking techniques.
• Ability to prepare a variety of dishes consistently and efficiently.
• Good organisational and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene requirements.
• Ability to follow recipes, portion controls and established cooking procedures.
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple food preparation tasks.

Role Requirements:

• Availability to work extended hours, overtime on Saturday and Sunday by mutual agreement.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of workplace safety and environmental compliance.

Qualifications and Experience:

• AQF Certificate IV or Diploma in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent).
• At least 1 year of relevant full-time work experience as a Cook, preferably in an Indian restaurant setting.
• Working knowledge of WHS & environmental standards.
• Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks efficiently.
• The position is open to all AU citizens, PR's and full-time work holders.
