Fletchair Services is an established Sydney-based commercial HVAC and mechanical services company delivering ductwork fabrication, air conditioning installation, and planned maintenance across commercial and industrial facilities. The Sheetmetal Worker is a skilled trade role responsible for the marking out, fabrication, assembly and installation of sheetmetal ductwork and mechanical components that form part of Fletchair’s commercial HVAC systems.
Working from mechanical drawings and specifications, the Sheetmetal Worker fabricates ductwork, plenums, fittings and associated sheetmetal components in the workshop, and carries out on-site assembly and installation as part of Fletchair’s project and maintenance delivery. Attractive Salary [$80,000 - 85,000].
Opportunities to learn and upskill.
Reviewing shop drawings, mechanical plans and project specifications to work out the ductwork, materials, gauges and fabrication equipment each job requires.
Choosing the correct sheet material for each component — galvanised steel, stainless steel, mild steel, aluminium or copper — and confirming the gauge and dimensions are right before fabrication begins.
Setting out material with templates, gauges and measuring tools, and marking reference lines for ductwork sections, transitions and fittings.
Cutting material to the marked dimensions using power and hand shears, guillotines, plasma cutters and drills.
Folding, bending, rolling and pressing cut sheet into finished ductwork, plenums, flashings and fittings.
Joining and assembling fabricated sections into completed ductwork and mechanical assemblies using welding, riveting, soldering, brazing and seaming.
Finishing completed components to a commercial standard — deburring, filing, sanding, sealing and cleaning ready for installation.
Repairing, modifying and refabricating damaged or existing sheetmetal ductwork and components, both in the workshop and on site.
Assembling and installing fabricated ductwork and sheetmetal systems on commercial HVAC projects, including supporting, hanging and sealing the installed runs.
Fabricating custom brackets, supports and sheetmetal components to suit site conditions and mechanical services layouts.
Assisting with the installation of air conditioning and mechanical ventilation equipment, including positioning and mounting units and connecting fabricated ductwork, registers, grilles and diffusers.
Complying with all WHS legislation, Fletchair safe work method statements (SWMS) and site-specific safety requirements.
Working safely at heights, in plant rooms and on commercial sites, and correctly using personal protective equipment and safety systems.
Identifying and reporting hazards and contributing to a safe working environment for the team and clients.
