We are currently seeking two (2) experienced and skilled Welder (First Class) to join our team at our Tottenham workshop.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Studying and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, measurements and specifications to determine welding and fabrication requirements for trailer components and assemblies.
- Selecting, cleaning and preparing appropriate metal stock and components prior to welding and fabrication.
- Measuring, marking and cutting metal sections and shapes using hand tools, cutting equipment, flame-cutting equipment and other metalworking machinery.
- Shaping and bending metal sections, plates and pipes using appropriate hand and machine tools to meet required trailer specifications.
- Positioning, fitting and aligning metal components accurately using measuring instruments, clamps, jigs and hand tools prior to welding.
- Joining steel and other metal components using appropriate welding techniques to manufacture and repair trailer frames, chassis and associated structural components.
- Performing welding, bolting and riveting work as required during the manufacture, assembly and repair of trailers.
- Inspecting completed welds to assess bead width, penetration, alignment, strength and overall precision, and rectifying welding defects where required.
- Cleaning and smoothing completed welds using grinding, filing and other finishing equipment to achieve the required finish and structural standard.
- Cleaning, polishing and finishing fabricated metal components and completed assemblies.
- Repairing damaged or worn metal sections and welded components on existing trailers.
- Ensuring fabricated and welded components conform to drawings, measurements, specifications and required quality standards.
- Maintaining welding equipment, tools and work areas in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Following workplace health and safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment throughout fabrication and welding activities.
Skills and Experience
To be successful in this position, you should have:
- Relevant trade qualification such as an AQF Certificate III in Engineering/Fabrication or equivalent; or relevant industry experience demonstrating an equivalent level of trade competency.
- Minimum 2–3 years of relevant work experience as a Welder (First Class), Metal Fabricator, or in a closely related welding and fabrication role.
- Strong competency in welding techniques used for steel fabrication and structural components.
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, measurements and fabrication specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to measure, cut, shape, fit, align and weld metal components accurately.
- Sound knowledge of welding preparation, fabrication, grinding and finishing techniques.
- Ability to inspect completed welds and identify defects relating to penetration, alignment, bead quality and precision.
- Experience using welding machines, grinders, cutting equipment, measuring instruments and fabrication tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate and high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently as well as effectively within a workshop and manufacturing team.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements within a welding and fabrication environment.
