$79,500 - $90,000 Annual

The Painter is responsible for the preparation, skilled application, and finishing of paint, protective coatings, varnishes, wallpaper, and decorative finishes to interior and exterior surfaces of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.

The role ensures that all surfaces are properly prepared, protected from environmental damage, and finished to a high aesthetic and technical standard in accordance with Australian construction standards and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) requirements.

Task & responsibilities

DUTIES

  • Prepare and assess surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, filling cracks, and removing old coatings

  • Apply primers, sealers, and undercoats to ensure correct adhesion and durability of finishes

  • Mix and prepare paints, varnishes, and coating materials according to specifications and colour requirements

  • Apply paint and protective coatings to interior and exterior surfaces using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment

  • Carry out finishing work on walls, ceilings, doors, windows, and structural surfaces in residential and commercial buildings

  • Perform decorative finishes, texture coatings, and colour matching to achieve specified design outcomes

  • Hang, align, trim, and finish wallpaper and related surface coverings where required

  • Inspect completed work, identify imperfections, and perform touch-ups to ensure high-quality finish standards

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver skilled painting and finishing work in accordance with project specifications, drawings, and client requirements

  • Ensure all tasks are completed in compliance with Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) regulations and site safety procedures

  • Maintain proper handling, cleaning, and storage of painting tools, equipment, and hazardous materials

  • Work collaboratively with supervisors, tradespeople, and site managers to achieve project timelines and quality standards

  • Ensure all work meets Australian construction quality standards and is completed within required deadlines.


Qualification & experience

Qualification and Experience

  • AQF Certificate III in Painting and Decorating (or equivalent qualification)

  • Minimum 1 year of full-time relevant work experience as a Painter or Painting Trades Worker

  • Strong knowledge of surface preparation, painting techniques, and finishing processes

  • Ability to mix, match, and apply paints and coatings accurately

  • Proficient in the use of brushes, rollers, and spray painting equipment

  • Understanding of paint systems, finishes, and coating materials

  • Ability to interpret job instructions, specifications, and construction drawings

  • Physical ability to safely work at heights and in construction environments in accordance with WHS requirements

  • Experience in specialty finishes such as epoxy coatings, protective coatings, or waterproofing is highly desirable.
