Veolia’s Future Forward Program is a 5-week pre-employment program commencing Monday 9 November 2026 in Melbourne/Naarm. The program is designed to help First Nations people build confidence, gain hands-on experience and explore an exciting career pathway with Veolia.
For participants interested in becoming a Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanic, this program provides an opportunity to experience the industry before progressing towards a potential apprenticeship pathway.
This program has the aim of increasing the employment of First Nations persons. It is a special measure intended to achieve equality under Section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).
The first two weeks include:
Participants will then complete three weeks of hands-on workplace learning, gaining exposure to the day-to-day work of a Heavy Vehicle Mechanic.
This pathway is ideal for people interested in learning how to maintain and repair heavy vehicles.
As an Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, you may gain experience in:
🔧 Assisting with heavy vehicle inspections, servicing and repairs
🔧 Learning how to diagnose mechanical issues under the guidance of experienced mechanics
🔧 Using hand tools, power tools and workshop equipment safely
🔧 Completing preventative maintenance and scheduled servicing
🔧 Assisting with parts and equipment required for repairs
🔧 Learning how to complete service documentation and workshop paperwork
🔧 Maintaining a clean, organised and safe workshop environment
🔧 Developing your skills alongside experienced Veolia mechanics and workshop professionals
Successful candidates may have the opportunity to progress into a full-time Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology apprenticeship, combining paid employment with nationally recognised training.

No previous mechanical experience is required — just a genuine interest in learning and building a career.

Location: Melbourne/Naarm and various Veolia sites across Victoria
