Task & responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and cook nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with approved menus

• Cater for allergies, dietary requirements and cultural preferences

• Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness

• Order, receive and monitor food supplies and kitchen stock levels

• Ensure correct storage, rotation and handling of food products

• Work within budgeted food costs and minimise waste

• Maintain records relating to food temperatures, cleaning schedules and compliance requirements

• Assist in developing seasonal menus that promote healthy eating habits

• Communicate effectively with educators and management regarding children’s dietary needs

• Ensure all kitchen operations comply with relevant health and safety regulations

Qualification & experience

• Relevant Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or higher qualification, or at least 3 years of relevant work experience

• Minimum 12 months of recent full time relevant work experience as a Cook

• Knowledge of food safety standards and kitchen compliance procedures

• Experience preparing meals in a childcare, school, aged care or high volume kitchen environment is highly regarded

• Ability to manage time efficiently and work independently

• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

• Positive attitude and genuine interest in children’s wellbeing
